Sausalito's views are now protected in city law.

Protection for the views that belong to everyone.
When the original draft of the city's State required Objective Design and Development standards were published they had no view protection requirements at all. Our goal: Add enforceable view protection with an objective way to measure a project's impact on resident and public views.

Why it mattered
View protection passed 5–0.
The Council adopted Chapter 3 of the Objective Design Standards after 115+ public comments.
Impacts are measured objectively.
Developers must use ViewSync to show exactly what a project would block before approval.
It's encoded in city law.
View protection is in the municipal code — a standard, not a case-by-case favor.
